Maxwell Matewere is an internationally recognized human trafficking advocate, author, and legal expert with more than 27 years of experience leading efforts to combat transnational crime and protect vulnerable communities. Throughout his career, he has developed and implemented strategies to address human trafficking, migrant smuggling, terrorism, corruption, and global drug trafficking while advancing policies that strengthen justice and human rights.
As the founder of Eye of the Child, a child rights organization in Malawi, and the Malawi Network Against Trafficking (MNAT)—Maxwell has been at the forefront of anti-trafficking advocacy, victim protection, child rights, and legislative reform. His work has helped raise awareness of modern slavery while supporting survivors and promoting lasting systemic change.
Maxwell has worked extensively with United Nations agencies, African Union bodies, SADC, governments, universities, NGOs, faith-based organizations, and the private sector, providing expertise in law reform, policy development, training, research, program design, and survivor-centered interventions. His practical experience and commitment to justice have established him as a trusted human trafficking advocate and international voice in the fight against exploitation.
A Fellow of Stanford University and an alumnus of global leadership and innovation programs supported by GIZ and the Thomson Reuters Foundation, Maxwell continues to educate, advocate, and inspire action through his writing, speaking engagements, and work to end human trafficking worldwide.
